The Hair

                                                          Sandy Dickson

A German man who lived in West Berlin

During the time of that big dividing wall,

Wrote his son on the East side a letter

Suspecting the communists to read it all.

He wrote, “Inside, I’m enclosing a hair,

So if they open it, the hair will fall out.

Then when you receive it, if it’s not there,

We will no longer have a reason to doubt.”

The son received the letter and wrote back,

“The hair was still there, so do you feel better?”

Now the West Berliner had his answer,

As he’d not really put one in the letter.
